Her Adopted Baby’s Daddy: Chapter 9

Jules’ POV

I made my way to the door and opened it. Ceaser stood there staring at me looking so gorgeous. He looked shocked.

Figures.

“Hi” I said it rudely cause of two things.

One: Even though he apologized for not talking to me for long. It still didn’t cut it for me.

Two: “Hi Jules. Nice to see you again” would have been good enough. Not standing there and staring at me like I just confessed that I was Athena – the god.

“Jules” Finally he said something “You look…incredible”.

Oh.

Well, that was unexpected.

“Thanks” I said “You don’t look so bad”.

He smiled.

“Are you set?” He asked.

“Yea. Let’s go” I said stepping out and shutting the door.

We walked down the stairs. I noticed a limo.

“Good evening ma’am” a man held the door open for me.

“Oh hello” I smiled at him.

“Thank you Patrick, I’ll take it from here” I heard Ceaser say as I got in.

“Yes sir” I heard Patrick say then he left.

I sat at the left end of the limo when Ceaser entered and closed the door.

“Are we set sir?” I heard Patrick ask.

“Yes please” he said “Let’s be on our way” he looked at me.

I felt the limo moving.

I sighed.

“Soo…?” I started “Do you want to fill me in on where we’re headed?” I looked at him.

“Impatient, aren’t we” He said smirking.

“I’m not impatient. I just want to know where you’re taking me” I said.

“You’ll find out soon” that’s all he said.

A few seconds passed.

“You got my note” he stated more than asked.

“I did” I said not looking at him.

Well?

I waited thinking he was gonna say something else. But apparently he wasn’t planning on saying more than that.

So much for communication.

A few minutes later I felt the car stop.

The door opened and Ceaser got down and waited for me. I got out and placed my hand in his arm.

“Thank you Patrick” I said.

“No problem ma’am” he said.

“Please call me Jules” I said.

“Yes…” Patrick was about saying.

“Enough of the pleasantries” Ceaser snapped.

I looked at him and frowned at him.

Rude much?

“Leave with the limo. I’ll call you when we’re ready to leave” Ceaser said to Patrick.

“Yes sir” he said and left with the limo.

“Let’s go in” Ceaser said and pulled me along.

I followed him.

In front of us was a huge building with few stairs that went round the building, at least from what I could see.

We climbed the stairs and arrived in front of a double door which was wide open. We walked in, the inside was bright from the diamond chandelier hanging all the way from the ceiling.

Few flower vases on either side on the room and paintings too. Few people here and there.

Finally we reached another double door where two door men stood.

“Welcome sir, ma’am” one of them said as they opened the door.

We walked further inside and I was shocked beyond words. I’ve never seen so many people since New year.

I was so caught up with the number of people that were here that I didn’t notice all their eyes turned in our direction.

When I did, I clutched Ceaser’s arm tighter and I swallowed. I felt his gaze on me so I turned and looked up at him.

“You alright?” He asked.

I nodded still trying to get over the attention.

“Can we go somewhere less open?” I asked.

He just smiled.

“Sure” he said and pulled me along with him, I followed willingly.

“So are you gonna tell me what the event is?” I asked when we had mixed with the crowd.

Ceaser picked up two glasses of champagne from the waiter that passed. He handed one to me.

“Thanks” I said and took a sip “So?”

“It’s a charity event. The invitation asked to bring a plus one. Didn’t have anyone at first…then I remembered you” he looked at me.

“Nice to know I’m being thought of once in a while. I was beginning to think you totally forgot Ivy and I existed” I said truthfully.

“Speaking of Ivy” he said “How’s she?” He asked.

“She’s fine” it brought a smile to my face just thinking about her “She’s been missing you” I looked at him.

“Oh?” He said.

“There hasn’t been a day that went by that she never said ‘dada'” I told him “She gets a little bit sad when she doesn’t see you”

“I’m sorry about that” he said “I was…”

“Ceaser?” Another voice interrupted him.

We looked at the person who called his name.

It was a good looking woman, around her forties. She had blonde hair and she was really pretty. She was accompanied by a middle-aged man.

“Mum” I heard Ceaser say.

Holy sh*t!

She hugged him.

“My boy. I thought you weren’t gonna come. I was almost losing hope” she said.

“I told you I was gonna come, mum” he told her. He looked at the middle-aged man “Dad” he hugged the man.

“How are you son?” The man asked.

“I’m good, dad” he answered and turned to me and smiled “This is Jules Jenna, my date” he said “Jules, these are my parents”.

“Good evening ma’am” I offered my hand to his mother.

“Oh please call me Selene” she said smiling at me.

I nodded and offered my hand to his dad.

“Thomas” he said.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you” I said smiling at him.

“The pleasure is all mine” he said and let go of my hand “Never met any of this boy’s woman” he said referring to Ceaser.

“Dad please” Ceaser said.

“It’s true” his mum said “Always avoiding women like a plague. Don’t know how he made it this far. He has still kept me wondering how he even got married”.

Married.

Married?!

I looked at Ceaser who was looking at me “Married?” I asked looking at all of them.

“He hasn’t told you has he?” His mum asked me looking guilty.

“No” I shook my head.

“Well I’m sorry for being the one whom you heard it from” she said and looked at Ceaser “He’ll tell you when he’s ready”.

I swallowed and nodded at her. Forcing a smile on my face even though I felt hurt.

I don’t know why, but the idea of Ceaser being married and not telling me that he was/is married hit me like a wave and made me want to curl up in a corner and cry till my heart was better.

“Well we should probably go back to our seats. The auction will soon begin” I heard Thomas say.

“Oh yes” Selene said “Let’s go”.

I felt Ceaser’s hand on the small of my back which was naked. I felt his gaze on me as we followed his parents to the seats. I didn’t want to look at him. I couldn’t. I didn’t want him to see the emotions that played in me.

He pulled out a chair for me when we arrived at the seats that I think were reserved for us and a few other people.

“Thanks” I said to him still not looking at him.

“You’re welcome” he bent and whispered into my ear which sent shivers through my body.

He sat on my right with his mum on my left followed by others around the table and Thomas sat on the other side, next to Ceaser.

A few minutes later everyone was seated and the auction began.

My mind was still processing the marriage thing but I made sure I wasn’t rude about it.

“So what do you do?” Selene asked me.

“Hmm, I’m in the contracts department in Freddie and Co.” I said.

“Oh. What does that entail?” She asked

“I go through contracts made with other companies or individuals who want to publish books, magazines or newspapers. I make sure the contract doesn’t have errors that can affect the company badly or things that can implicate us in anyway. So if I find things like that, I send it over to the company’s lawyer with a reference to the part of the contract I think will affect us”.

“That sounds fun” she said.

“It is. But sometimes, some contracts are either too long, or its boring and isn’t straightforward. Some gets tricky” I told her.

“But from the way you talk about it. I’m sure you love it” she said.

“I do” I smiled.

“What about your family?” She asked.

The smile immediately left my face.

“I have a daughter – Ivy” I said smiling again.

“Oh. How old is she?”

“She’s one.” I said “She’s adorable. She never troubles me. She’s the only kid I know that doesn’t cry for little things except she needs a change or she’s hungry. Anything else, she tells you in her own way without crying. I just…I love her”

“I’d love to meet her. You talking about her reminds me of Ceaser when he was little. He never cried for little things. He was the happiest baby I’d ever come across.” She said happily “What about Ivy’s father?” She asked.

“Ivy’s adopted, so I don’t know anything about her biological parents”.

“What about your parents?”

“Uh, my parents died in a plane crash” I said.

“Oh, I’m so sorry” she said.

“It’s alright. It’s been more than a year now, but sometimes it feels like it was just yesterday. But not with Ivy around. She keeps me happy” I smiled again.

“I can tell” Selene smiled at me “I like you, you’re good for my son” she said.

“I don’t know what to say” I told her.

“Say ‘You’ll take care of him’. He’s been through a lot since his wife died, at least that’s how it looks from my end. I don’t really know what he feels. He shuts himself out from everyone. He doesn’t like to share except it’s work stuff.”

I looked at Ceaser who was in conversation with his dad.

“I’ll try” I told Selene.

I’ll try.

It wasn’t a problem for me. I’ll try to make Ceaser happy. But if he doesn’t want to be, I can’t force him. It’s his choice.

So yes, I’ll try. But that doesn’t mean it’ll work.

Her Adopted Baby’s Daddy: Chapter 5

I watched as he gently placed Ivy in her crib. Then walked out without making any noise. I switched the lights off and went to the living room to join Ceaser.

“I’m sorry about all…” I was about saying.

“No please. It was fun.” He said, interrupting me once again. “She actually seems like she knows what she’s doing”.

“I know right” I said. “I’ve always thought all this was a dream. That I’ll finally wake up and she’ll be like all those other kids that cry over everything and are so stubborn”.

“But she isn’t” he said.

“Exactly” I said “It’s like she’s done with all those childish things and…”

“…can’t wait to grow up” he said.

I looked at him and saw him smiling. He looked at me.

“What?” He asked.

I shook my head and sighed “You just get it”.

His smile disappeared slowly as the tension grew. We just stared into each other’s eyes and it was like we were frozen in time. His eyes grew darker and my heart was going at thousand beats per minute. The tension became palpable and you could cut it with a knife.

The funny thing was, I knew he felt it and I also knew he knew I felt it too. But we weren’t even moving.

He wasn’t going to do anything about it.

I cleared my throat when I forced myself out of the haze.

“I should probably go” he finally said.

“Yeah, of course.” I led the way to the door and opened it. He walked out and stopped. He turned to look at me.

“Goodnight Jules” he said.

“Goodnight” I said and shut the door not wanting to watch him leave before I did something stupid like call him back and kiss the living soul out of him.

I went to bed waiting patiently for sleep to take me. But obviously it didn’t since I couldn’t stop thinking about what happened.

I sighed and closed my eyes.

Ceaser’s POV

I didn’t get much sleep last night because of what happened yesterday. The tension in the room was just too much. I had never had to deal with so much tension with anyone before.

I had stayed in the office all morning thinking of what to do, how to start and so many other things.

Every time I tried getting some work done, she pops into my mind. I can’t get my head straight at all.

Then finally, lunch break came and I had a plan to get her off my mind. I picked my phone, told my PA to cancel my schedule for the rest of the day and I got into the elevator and pressed the number to her floor.

Jules’ POV

Today was no different. As usual it was work, work, work. I had a lot of files to go through on my desk. I had to finish them today cause starting from tomorrow is a weekend and I don’t like resuming Monday morning to deal with last week’s work. So I had to finish all of these today, even if it means staying late. I’d just have to tell Miranda to take Ivy with her.

I checked the time and it was 12:37. I’d told my assistant to go for her lunch break. I didn’t want her staying behind just because I was.

I was so immersed in what I was doing. I didn’t want to get distracted. Then someone knocked on my door.

“Alice, didn’t I tell you to go for lunch?” I said still focusing on the files in front of me.

“And what about you?” I heard a sexy husky male voice ask.

I looked up to find the man that hunted my dreams last night. Yeah, I dreamt about him. This morning I woke up wet…more like drenched.

And just so you know, I’m not talking about sweat.

He was wearing a dark grey suit this time. His hair was…sighs. All I wanted to do was run my hands through his hair or better still tug at it as he made sweet love to…

Oh My God. What is happening to me?

He smiled at me.

“Like what you see, Ms. Jenna?” He asked as he shut the door and proceeded to my desk.

“Hmm, what are you doing here?” I asked, surprised to see him here.

“I came to see you” he said plainly.

“But how do you know where I work?” I asked.

“I have my ways Ms. Jenna” he smiled.

I smiled back.

“Why aren’t you on your lunch break?” He asked casually.

“Hmm…” I looked back at the files, then at him “…I can’t” I said.

“Why not?” He asked without giving away his emotions.

If he had one.

“I have to be done with these files before I leave today, and taking a lunch break wouldn’t help” I said.

“You could always take them home with you” he suggested.

“Oh no. Weekends are for Ivy and I, no work involved and I hate keeping them over the weekend”.

I could have sworn I saw his eyes glistening. But it disappeared as fast as it came.

“Bummer” he said placing his hands on my desk and staring at me intently.

“Why is that?” I asked.

“I would have loved to take you out” he said, leaning down to me.

My breath caught at how close we were. I could count his lashes. His eyes glared into my soul. His eyes darkened to a darker shade of grey. My lips dried cause of my raging breath. I moistened it with my tongue and his eyes went from my eyes down to where my tongue moved across my lips. Then after a second of me wetting my lips, his eyes met mine again.

The tension was back…this time in double folds.

Slowly he brought his face closer and closer to mine till we shared the same air and my eyes drifted close.

I felt his lips brush my cheek.

“I’ll pick you up for dinner” he said with that voice of his that made my heart do a back flip and a cart wheel.

Finally I opened my eyes to see him walking towards my door. He opened the door and turned to look at me. He smiled and winked at me before he went out my office.

Oh, he was such a jerk. Leaving me like this. Putting me in this embarrassing position.

He said something about dinner?

He was gonna get it.

Ceaser’s POV

I left her office with a smile plastered on my face. It was working. I counted on the seduction working, but I didn’t plan on it backfiring too.

I sighed heavily in the elevator.

I almost kissed her, not because I was seducing her, but because I wanted to. I needed to.

I just had to hold it back with all the strength I had.

This wasn’t gonna end well.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder: My Experience and Ways to Deal with it

Hi Guys. It’s been a minute. Yeah yeah. This time, I’m not downplaying it… Asides the sequel I’ve been running on the blog, I haven’t posted in a few weeks. Which isn’t so bad considering where I was last year but not so great as well since I’ve been posting at least once a week. Not a lot has happened but I’ll spill what’s up. So I had a 2-week leave from work about 3 weeks ago. I’m entitled to one month of leave during my one year internship programme and I decided to split mine into two parts of 2 weeks each. I had my first leave last year which makes this the last. I’m not sad about it, because I’m finishing my internship on May 1st. Whoop! Whoop! To be honest, I’m both excited and anxious because of NYSC. But let’s leave that for another post.

I travelled back to Owo in Ondo State last week Monday (if you’ve been following my blog posts, you’d know this is where I’ve been undergoing my internship programme) and during the journey, I decided on sharing my experience with you. I’m sure you’re wondering what’s there to share? Well, not the journey but my experience with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It occurred to me that there might be other people who have had or are undergoing PTSD but are not sure how to talk about it mostly because they think they’re alone so I decided to talk about it on here in order to make them realize they’re not alone.

PTSD

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is an anxiety stress disorder that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event, or learning that a traumatic event has happened to a loved one. It is a psychological reaction which manifests after a traumatic event. For an event to be classified as traumatic, a person has to have witnessed, experienced or been confronted with actual or threatened death or serious injury or a threat to the physical integrity of themselves or others. The person’s response MUST involve intense fear, helplessness or horror.

The major symptoms of PTSD include but are not limited to:

1. Continually reliving the traumatic event or having nightmares about it.

2. Involuntary or conscious avoidance of things that remind the victim of the traumatic event.

3. Being on the look-out for a danger that isn’t present.

There are a bunch load of symptoms that are a lot more specific to individuals and I dropped links below for further reading.

Examples of traumatic events include:

1. Experiencing or witnessing natural disasters.

2. Violent crimes such as kidnapping, physical abuse, assault or murder of a loved one.

3. Being involved in or witnessing a car accident.

4. Undergoing a major surgery.

5. Chronic physical or sexual abuse.

Sometime last year, I was involved in what could have been a fatal road accident. I had travelled to Ibadan for the weekend and was heading back to Owo when one of the car’s tyre flew off in full speed. Immediately, the car started spinning for a few minutes and flipped on its side before going back on its wheels. During this period, I was very scared but somehow I remained calm. There was a lot of screaming from the other passengers but my instant response was to pray. When the car finally came to a halt in a ditch, that’s when I felt the shock from the event. Thankfully no one was hurt, except for the driver who strained a muscle in his arm while trying to control the steering wheel.

The week following the incident, I was still in shock. I became so withdrawn and sullen. I kept having flashbacks of the incident and saw life in a whole new perspective. Prior to this, I had been travelling home about twice in a month but after what happened, I didn’t travel nowhere for the next 3 months. Eventually, when I had to go on a 45 minutes journey to Akure, I had a panic attack for most part of it and even ended up breaking down in tears at some point due to the horrific flashbacks and paranoid imaginations the journey triggered. It’s gotten a lot better now but I don’t think I can ever really get over it. I can no longer travel without blocking out the car’s noise with music in addition to praying all the way.

Treatment

Treatment usually comprises different types of psychotherapy as well as medications to manage symptoms.

An evidence-based treatment for PTSD is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). The concept behind CBT is that our thoughts affect how we feel which invariably affect how we behave or respond to certain situations. Our thoughts, feelings and behaviour can influence one another to create a cycle. So, If we consciously program our minds to think positive (about a situation that would normally be accompanied with lots of negative thoughts), these positive thoughts will have a positive influence on our responses and behaviour in that situation.

PTSD

But let’s be practical with a lot of consideration to our environment, visiting a Clinical Psychologist is uncommon in this part of the world (except in severe cases). As a matter of fact, it is avoided as much as possible. In my case, immediately I started having flashbacks and paranoia, I had a pretty clear picture of the diagnosis yet I didn’t go to see one (well for me, I knew it will pass with time) but ideally I should have gone to see one. So I’m in no way discouraging anyone suffering from PTSD from seeking medical attention, I’m only trying to be realistic. So in event of all these, how does one cope with PTSD and inevitably get better?

Time! They say time heals all things (including PTSD). The fact is that it gets better with time. The amount of flashbacks I had immediately after the accident has reduced drastically now. Although, I still get very paranoid when I’m about to embark on any journey via a public vehicle but I’m handling it a lot better than I was some months ago.

Talk to someone! They say a problem shared is a problem half solved right? Taking to someone helps me a great deal. Every time I get paranoid prior to a journey or on a journey, I talk to someone who understands and can help me get over the paranoia.

Prayer! I never underestimate the power of prayer. This is the most important in my opinion. Prior to the accident, I prayed about everything no matter how mundane. So it was only natural for me to talk to God to help me get past the flashbacks, the paranoia and panic attacks. I can’t tell you how much peace I feel after praying each time I’m having a panic attack while on a journey. Prayers work.

Think Positive! Whenever I start having negative thoughts related to the incident, I try to get rid of those thoughts and replace them with positive thoughts and imaginations that will put me at ease. This helps me in most case and is an example of employing the concept of CBT.

Relaxation techniques like deep breathing exercises, yoga, massage and mediation can help one get past PTSD as well. I mostly use deep breathing exercise technique when I’m getting a panic attack and it works like magic.

I hope this reaches someone who needs it. I’d love to see your comments below. Have you experienced PTSD or do you know someone who has? How did you/they get past it? If there’s anything you’d like to add, please I’d be glad to read.

Wish you a lovely week Guys.

How to Derive Happiness from Little Things

A lot of people pass through life with their sole focus on the “bigger things” and then get disappointed or even depressed if they can’t achieve those things or it’s taking a little longer than expected. In the hustle and bustle, they don’t realise one can also derive happiness from the little things that are present in our everyday lives. Are you one of such people? Are you in too much of a hurry, chasing the bigger things in life that you miss out on the little and maybe even priceless things? Have you let “life” make you oblivious to beautiful everyday joys?

Sweetheart, you need to pause right now, take a deep breath and click on the reset button or re-orient yourself. Think about the little things that you would probably notice if you weren’t so blind to them, or weren’t so much in a haste. Think about the little things that might put a smile on your face in spite of how much of a busy/bad day you’re having or might have had. Don’t be in a haste. You won’t experience happiness or even notice these little things if you are always in a hurry. Truth is, if you don’t find joy in little things, you might not in the “bigger things” either. Hell! You wouldn’t even appreciate them when they come.

I compiled a list of little things that make me feel refreshed or happy:

  1. Petrichor (the smell of rain).
  2. Rain (Oh Yes! Can you tell I’m a Pluviophile?)
  3. The sight of the moon (One of the most romantic sight ever).
  4. Cool evening breeze while taking a walk.
  5. The smell of freshly laundered clothes.
  6. Sleeping on a freshly laundered bedsheet.
  7. The taste of chocolate melting in my mouth (he he).
  8. A baby smiling, giggling or laughing.
  9. The scent of a baby.
  10. A toddler being very polite and well-mannered.
  11. The smell of Palmolive honey body wash.
  12. The feeling after posting an article.
  13. Helping someone in need.
  14. Cold water on a very hot afternoon.
  15. A message or call notification from anyone that’s dear to me.
  16. Holding a cute baby in my arms
  17. Aroma of fried beef, chicken or eggs…
  18. Friends being attentive, sweet and empowering.
  19. People that want the best for others.
  20. My mom’s daily visit (for updates/gist) to my room just before she retires for the night.
  21. My dad’s dry jokes.
  22. My sister grabbing my butt when we see after a long time.
  23. Seeing an old happy couple.
  24. A sprouting flower.
  25. Little thoughtful gestures and pleasant surprises.
  26. Early morning dew.
  27. A walk at dawn.
  28. Beautiful sceneries.

I’d have to stop right here or I might just go on and on…lol

I’d love to know what yours are, do leave your comments. If you wanna get notifications each time I put up a post, hit the subscribe button as well *winks and blows kisses*

Don’t forget to always take time to appreciate the little things in life. Make a conscious effort to do this every day and observe how it infects each day with happiness.

Wish you all a pleasant weekend.

Her Adopted Baby’s Daddy: Chapter 4

Jules’ POV

Well, it’s been a few days since Mr. Good Samaritan left my house looking all disheveled. Work was still the same for me. Although the new CEO had made a few changes. So as of yesterday I no longer work at Freddie and Co. but at Thompson’s Publishing.

The name I don’t mind but him firing and replacing most of the workers isn’t fair. That’s just mean. I get that he’s doing his job but he should have given them a month’s notice or at least a week. He just upped and fired them.

How charming of him.

I also heard he was a charmer. A hot charmer at that. Well, he’s been on all the floors. Andy and Sofi just can’t stop talking about him. And believe me, it’s annoying.

I was almost done cooking when I heard a knock.

I wonder who it is?

I went to the door and opened it. When I saw who it was, I held my breath.

He looked flawless in his black suit, white shirt and a dark shade of blue tie. His hair fell in place on his head. Then as I met his eyes and saw a hint of smile on his face. That’s when I realised I was staring.

“Are you done ogling me Ms. Jenna?” He said with his husky and very masculine voice that made me swallow.

“I-I was not…” I was about saying when he interrupted.

“May I come in?” He asked.

“Oh yes please” I said as I opened the door wider. He stepped in and walked towards the living room but not before he made sure his arm brushed mine and he lingered close for a while before he proceeded into the living room.

I sighed and closed the door. The I went to join him. He was scanning the room. Then when he looked at the kitchen, I remembered the food.

“Oh shit, excuse me” I walked-ran into the kitchen and turned the gas off. Thank God it didn’t burn. I would have gone to bed without having dinner.

I finally went to the living room to join Ceaser. I smiled as his name crossed my mind.

Wait! What the heck is wrong with me and my thoughts these days?

“I’m sorry about that” I said as I sat down.

“It’s fine” he said as he just looked at me.

We looked at each other for a while till it got really uncomfortable and weird, so I snapped out of the spell he put on me.

“So, why…?”

“I’m here to apologize for my behaviour the other day” he said interrupting me again.

“Oh that? It’s nothing. It’s fine. I’m sure you had…”

“I remembered I forgot to do something really important” he said. Interrupting me once again.

“It’s really okay. I mean, I wasn’t mad or…”

“But I just…” he was about saying before I cut him off.

“You do know you haven’t let me complete a sentence” I said.

He looked surprised.

“What?” He asked.

“You haven’t let me complete a sentence since you walked through the door” I smiled.

He had a hint of smile playing on his lips.

“I’m sorry. I’m just…” he sighed “Did your food get burnt?”

“What?” Now I was surprised.

“The food. It was on the fire when I walked in.” He stated.

“Oh. No, it didn’t get burnt” I said.

“Oh. It’s a shame. I’d have loved to take you out for dinner”.

I blushed.

“You do remember that I have a daughter right?”

As if on cue, I heard Ivy crying.

“Excuse me” I got up and ran to her room.

I opened her door and as she saw me, the crying stopped.

“Momma” she said raising her hands for me to carry her.

“Hey princess” I smiled at a smiling Ivy. “Hungry?”

“Hunguwe” she said.

I smiled at the way she said it. It was so cute. I adjusted her on my hip and went back to join Ceaser.

“Ceaser I want you to meet my daughter” I said immediately I entered the living room. He got up and turned to where I was.

His face was blank then I saw something in his eyes. Like regret and love. I don’t know. Maybe I just imagined it.

I reached him and smiled.

“This is Ivy” I said.

His lips curved into a smile and soon it grew wider into a grin.

“Ivy” he said.

It was as if she heard him call her name. She looked at Ceaser and smiled. She unwrapped her tiny hands around me and stretched them towards Ceaser.

Then she said something that shocked me.

“Dada”

Ceaser’s POV

I stayed away from her for a few days trying to set my mind and get my head straight. It wasn’t easy at all. I had to let go of the woman I picked up in the office garage and see her for who she really was.

The woman who took my child.

I decided to set my plan in motion. She didn’t look like someone who’d give her daughter up for anything. So I was going to court her.

I’ll make her fall madly in love with me. Who could resist me after all?

Then I’ll get married to her and share equal rights to my daughter. Finally, I’ll get the best lawyers and make sure I win back my daughter before I finally divorce her.

I smiled at my plan. It was as easy as that.

I went to her house to get started. The way she drooled over me when she opened the door made me happy. Then I got her to know that I’d love to take her out. Then I heard a cry.

“Excuse me” she said and left.

I heard footsteps coming closer after a while. Then she called my name. I got up and looked at her only to see her with my daughter.

“Ceaser I want you to meet my daughter” she said after entering the living room. I just stared at the little one in her arms.

When I first saw her she was asleep in Jules’ arms. I felt something then. When I saw her the second time. She was asleep in Jules’ lap. She made my heart pound.

Those two times I never knew she was my flesh and blood. But now that I know. I was just the happiest man.

Only if Bea, hadn’t given her up. I wouldn’t have to go through this. I’d have been with my daughter. Happy and problem free.

She moved closer and smiled.

“This is Ivy” she said.

My lips curved into a smile and soon it grew wider into a grin.

This is one of the happiest day of my life. I loved the name Jules gave her.

“Ivy” I said.

It was as if she heard me call her name. She looked at me and smiled. She was so cute. She unwrapped her tiny hands around Jules and stretched them towards me.

I didn’t know what to do.

Then she said something that left me breathless and motionless.

“Dada”

Just one word that made my heart beat escalate and my heart filled with joy. Just that word would make my day…my life.

“I’m sorry…” Jules was saying.

“Hey” I said as I took Ivy from her. She gladly came. “How are you?” I asked thinking she’d hear me.

“Dada” she said it again and giggled lightly which made me laugh.

I sat down with her still in my arms. Ivy just stared into my eyes like she knew me. Then she tried to climb up on me. I held her in place as she pulled my tie hoping it will pull her up. Then she finally made it. Now she was standing on me with her hands in my hair tugging and twirling.

“Is it fine if she stays with you for a while? I need to make her food” I heard Jules say. I had totally forgotten about her.

“Yeah” I said, not wanting to sound too happy about it or too uncomfortable with the idea of a baby all over me.

But she was ‘my’ baby. Nobody else’s.

Ivy played with everything that caught her attention till Jules brought her food.

She carried a bowl of cereal as she entered the living room. She sat on the same couch I was but there was a little distance. That didn’t stop me from inhaling her scent immediately. It drove me wild. She smelled of coconut.

“Ivy your food’s ready” she said to Ivy who was on my lap.

Ivy crawled out of my lap towards Jules. Jules carried her and placed her on her lap facing me.

She picked the bowl up and took a spoon full of the cereal and brought it near Ivy’s mouth. Ivy opened up and once the cereal was in her mouth she chewed on it before she swallowed, which took a while.

My heart clenched at the sight before me. Sometimes Jules would have to say ‘Ahh’ before Ivy opened up for her. I was too caught up at the sight before me I didn’t realise I was smiling like a complete idiot.

“Ivy open up, few more spoons” Jules told Ivy as she placed the spoon near Ivy’s mouth.

Ivy shook her head. Then she looked at me and smiled. I smiled back. She looked back at Jules.

“Momma” she called.

My breath caught. As much as I hated it and wanted to deny it. Jules was Ivy’s mother no matter what.

Ivy placed a hand on Jules’ face then she pointed at me.

“Dada”

Jules looked at me. I know she didn’t want to tell a one year old that the person she calls ‘Dada’ isn’t her dad.

Only if she knew.

“You want Dada to feed you?” She asked Ivy. Ivy nodded as she crawled out of Jules’ lap into mine.

Jules wasn’t sure if I liked the idea. I could tell from the look on her face.

“It’s fine” I told her.

She nodded and handed the bowl over to me. I began to feed Ivy how I saw Jules feed her. Ivy opened up every time till she finished her cereal.

“Good girl” I said after I gave her the last spoon. She smiled at me.

Jules took the bowl and went back to the kitchen. She came back to join Ivy and I. She was quiet as she watched how I played with Ivy. Finally, Ivy began to dose.

“That’s my cue” Jules got up and came to take sleeping Ivy from me.

“Let me” I got up.

She looked at me. I guess she was trying to figure me out.

Her Adopted Baby’s Daddy: Chapter 3

Jules’ POV

I gave him Miranda’s address. We were suppose to have a girls night with Sofia. I had prepared ahead and packed a few things in a small bag along with essentials Ivy would need. It was suppose to last till Sunday but I think I’ll cut it short to tomorrow. I stared at Ivy’s adorable sleeping form in my arms. I still look at her everyday and can’t believe she’s mine.

I sighed.

I looked up to find that we were rounding the corner to Miranda’s apartment.

“Oh, just let me out there” I pointed in front of Miranda’s apartment.

“Here?” he asked not exactly sure.

“Yes” I said.

He stopped directly in front of Miranda’s apartment. He got out of the car and before I could ask what he was doing, got the door for me.

Oh…didn’t know the good samaritan was also a gentleman.

I got out gently and adjusted Ivy in one arm resting her head on my shoulder. I bent in to take my bag but Mr. Gentleman here had done that. He held it out for me to take.

I smiled reluctantly at him and took the bag.

“Thank you” I said… “For the ride” I turned before he said anything.

I walked towards the apartment and climbed up the fleet of stairs. I finally reached Miranda’s door. I knocked once and waited. No one answered so I knocked again.

“I’m coming” I heard someone yell from inside.

The door finally opened and I saw Sofia.

“Oh My God Jules, where have you been? You were suppose to be here an hour ago” she said.

“Who is it Sofi?” Miranda yelled from inside.

“It’s Jules” Sofia yelled back as she let me in and helped me with my bag.

Miranda came into the medium sized sitting room.

“Where have you been?” She asked “We called you a billion times”.

“I’m sorry. My car didn’t start and someone gave me a ride” I said placing Ivy on my lap.

Sofia bent and took her into her own arms while I shifted for her to sit beside me. Miranda took the other seat. “As for the calls, my phone has been on mute”.

“Oh…so who dropped you?” Sofia asked.

“A Gentleman” I said yawning.

“Oh My God, didn’t anyone ever tell you not to accept rides from strangers, and a male stranger at that” Miranda said “Was he hot…”

And that my friend was how our girls night started.

Ceaser’s POV

I just stared as she made her way towards the apartment and climbed up the stairs. I sighed.

I rounded the car and drove off. I couldn’t put my finger on it but there was something about her and her adorable baby. They just…I don’t know.

She was just mesmerizing. The way she looked at the baby in the car – she didn’t know I kept glancing at her and the baby – was like she couldn’t believe she had such a beautiful daughter and she’d do anything to make her happy. And the baby? The baby made my heart leap for joy. She was the perfect daughter.

I smiled at the fact that I was in search of my own daughter and here I was admiring someone else’s.

Shit!

It just occurred to me that I didn’t even know either of their names.

Why did I care, it’s not like I was planning to see them again. Right?

Deep in my heart, I had a feeling I was.

I sighed again.

Why did this feel weird?

I thought as I parked my car in my garage.

Jules’ POV

The girls night in was a success. Ivy woke up a while later. I fed her and then Sofi and Andy played with her till she got tired again. I put her to bed and went to hang with Andy and Sofi. We watched tv for a while then talked about how we are all single. Well I was safe cause I’m a single mom. No one would want to go out with a single mom who is also a workaholic.

I woke up this morning and got ready to leave after making breakfast for everyone. Ivy woke up later. I fed her and got her ready for today, for whatever we were gonna do. Andy woke up before I left and decided she and Sofi were gonna take Ivy out. So I had to leave Ivy with them and go home alone. They were gonna bring her home in the evening which meant I had today to myself.

I was working on a paper when I heard someone knock the door. I went to get it and was very surprised at who I saw standing in front of me.

“You.” I said after I recovered from the shock.

Ceaser’s POV

I woke up smiling. I had no idea why. Since I had nothing to do today, I decided to check out the address John gave me of that baby stealer, Jules Jenna.

I wasted no time at all after I reviewed some important documents. I left the house and went in search of Jules Jenna.

I finally spotted the house I was looking for. Thanks to the GPS, it didn’t take much time to find the house. I got out of the car and walked to the front door.

I sighed before I finally raised my hand to knock. It didn’t up to ten seconds before the door pulled open. I looked up from the floor and stared at the familiar face. My heart stung as shock spread through my body. My breath caught.

No. This wasn’t happening.

“You” she said. Just one word made my heart flutter. Her voice was like that of a seductress. It was like a whisper that made you tingle but also like a loud bass that made your heart go boom.

I released my breath, still speechless.

“What are you doing here?” She asked.

“What are ‘you’ doing here?” I asked, shocked to see her here as well. I can remember clearly, I didn’t drop her here yesterday. So what was she doing here, I wondered.

“I live here” she said as-a-matter-of-fact.

“Oh. With the owner of the house?” I asked. Cause I needed to be sure. If she owned the house then…

“I own the house…” she said “…now at least” she murmured.

“Who owned it before?” I asked, praying silently that she would give me a name and I’d be on my way in search of the previous owners.

She stilled and just stared at me. She shook her head and blinked fast. Then she looked back at me.

“I’m sorry for my bad manners. Do you wanna come in?” She smiled at me.

Wait. What just happened?

“Uh, sure” I said and stepped in as she opened the door wide.

I entered and waited for her to shut the door. She led me to the sitting room which I could see from here.

We reached the sitting room and I saw some paperwork on the floor and a laptop on the table.

She was working.

“I’m sorry about the mess” she said as she bent down to gather the papers, she shut the laptop, placed the papers in it and took it to the kitchen cabinet which wasn’t far from here. “Have a seat please”.

I sat and waited for her to join me.

“Do you want anything?” She called from the kitchen.

“Water is fine” I said.

I needed to cool down after that shock.

I heard the tap run, then few seconds later she came back with a cup of clear water and handed it to me.

“Thanks” I took it from her and took a sip.

She sat down on the seat at my right. I placed the glass on the table and turned to face her.

“I want to thank you for yesterday. You made it so much easier for me” she said smiling.

“Don’t mention” I shook my head smiling a little too.

“And I remembered I never got a chance to introduce myself yesterday” she continued.

“Yea, same here” I said.

“Well I’m Jules Jenna” she said.

My smile disappeared. My heart erupted.

That’s exactly what I was afraid of. That she’d end up being the one.

The one I hated. The one I called a “baby stealer”. The one whom all I wanted from was to get close to. Gain her trust. Then snatch my child slowly out of her hands.

But now, could I do that?

“Are you okay?” She asked looking concerned.

“Yea, I’m fine” I assured her as I stood up “Hmm, I have to go”.

She looked confused but snapped out of it quickly.

“Okay” she said as she followed me towards the door.

I opened it and got out. She held the door open and just watched me.

I rounded the car and opened the door. But before I got in I looked at her.

“I’m Ceaser by the way” I said.

She smiled and nodded.

I smiled back and got into the car and drove off.

This was wrong.

Everything felt wrong. I know her but at the same time I don’t .

She is the woman I dropped off last night. The woman I secretly looked forward to meeting again. The woman that made me nervous. The woman that made my heart feel…weird. The woman whose voice makes me growl and whose eyes makes me lost.

I sighed

What exactly am I suppose to do now that I know she’s the woman that took my child. The woman I intended to hurt emotionally by taking my child back.

I was so freaking confused. I pulled the car into the drive way and got out. I slammed the door and made my way inside the apartment, into my room. I lay on my back, facing the ceiling with my hands behind my head.

I sighed.

Jules’ POV

I closed the door after he left and rested my back against it. I sighed and placed my hand on my beating heart.

How in the world did he do this to my steady heart.

I didn’t get a good look at him last night but today, I was hit so hard. He was…flawless.

I’ve never been this way just by looking at a guy. But something about him made my heart race so fast…and furious.

The way he literally ran out of the house after I told him my name was weird. Something was up and I needed to know. Or maybe it was just my imagination.

I walked back into the kitchen and continued working, trying to keep this “Ceaser” out of my head.

Don’t be surprised when I say, I didn’t get anything done…

Things You Need to Know About Piercing Care and Home Remedies for a Piercing Infection

It’s 1:42 am as I type this. I had a pretty long day so I planned to sleep early but here I am…

Let’s talk about piercings. What’s your take on them? Are you crazy about them or do you fall among the category of people that are fine with the one they got at birth? If not, how many piercings have you got and where?

I really love piercings but not to the extent of staying up this late writing on the topic (it’s not that deep). The only reason I’m up right now and typing this is because I just discovered I have a piercing infection. Specifically a tragus (small flap of cartilage that is located right next to the outside of your ear canal) piercing infection. Sad innit?

I only had a pair of piercing on my ears until I was 15. My sister and I got another pair on her 13th birthday. I can’t remember whose idea it was but fast forward to last year, I planned to get more on my birthday as well but wasn’t able to until 2weeks ago. I got 3 piercings (a pair on my ears and one on my left tragus because my left dimple is the deeper one. I know I sound very vain *shrugs). And this time I got it without my sister.

The instructions I got from the professional piercer were:

1. Clean them with disinfectant twice daily.

2. Do not let soap or shampoo come in contact with the piercings.

3. Ensure nothing including your hair touches your piercings.

4. Do not put your phone close to your piercings/ear.

4. Remove and clean the earrings after 2weeks.

5. Rotate the earrings everyday with clean hands.

Except for the times I’d forget and hold my phone directly to my ear instead of using earphones, I adhered to these instructions. Considering how sensitive I am, I’d say my tragus piercing got infected 2days ago. I noticed it was swollen but it didn’t start feeling warm and heavy till this morning. And I didn’t confirm it was an infection until about 2 hours ago when I noticed pus oozing out of it. I immediately cleaned it with Methylated spirit and spent 30 minutes trying to take out the earring. When I finally did, the struggle to take out the earring worsened the swelling.

I suspect the infection might have been triggered by a jewelry rejection. My skin reacts to jewelries that aren’t pure gold or silver and I’ve always known that but my own earring couldn’t fit into the earring gun when I was piercing so I had to use the ones they had hoping since it is an original GL ( I have no idea what GL stands for, does anyone?), I could get away with not reacting at least until the piercings heal. Alas, I was wrong! *sigh*

I had to research on tragus piercing right after disinfecting mine and replacing the GL earring. I came across a few things that were omitted by the piercer and I thought to share them with you guys. I hope you find this helpful.

Things You Need To Know About Piercing Care

1. Do not clean with alcohol, dettol, iodine, hydrogen peroxide or contact solution as they will burn and ruin your piercing.

2. The best disinfectants to use for piercings are Sterile Saline Solution or non-iodized sea salt water.

3. Do not sleep on the ear/part where you had your piercing done until it’s completely healed.

4. Avoid swimming until piercing is healed.

5. Avoid playing with piercing or touching with dirty hands.

6. Turn the earring ONLY when it’s wet (during cleaning).

7. Be careful not to tug or pull the jewelry especially when putting on round/narrow-neck tops/t-shirts.

7. Ear lobe piercings takes 2-3months to heal while cartilage piercings take about 3months – 1year depending on individuals.

8. Cartilage piercings require more TLC.

Some causes of piercing infections

1. Piercing with an inexperienced piercer

2. Not properly cleaning the piercing

3. Jewelry rejection

4. Not adhering to the instructions above.

Some of the signs that indicate you might have an infection include pain, redness, warmth, swelling and discharge. When you observe any or all of these signs, the first thing to do is consult with your piercer (which I did right before cleaning mine).

I also looked up and started some home remedies although my focus was on tragus piercing but I believe it applies to other types of piercing.

Home remedies for Treating a Tragus Infection

1. Clean with a saline solution 2-3times daily

2. Use hot compress.

I came across various options for hot compress which include tea tree oil, chamomile tea bag, sea salt. I went with the sea salt compress which was the easiest and most available option for me.

Procedure for Sea Salt Water Compress

1. Boil water and allow it to cool down a bit (till it’s warm).

2. Add 1/4 tablespoon of salt in a shot-glass quantity of water.

3. Soak cotton wool or sterile gauze in the solution.

4. Compress the ear/piercing with it for 10 minutes.

I intend to do this at least 2-3 times in a day. Well, that’s what the instructions said. For more information on other types of home remedies, click on this link.

In the addition to the home remedies, you can take an antibiotic (which I started immediately). You can also apply an antibacterial ointment/cream on the piercing for quicker result.

NOTE: If there are no signs of improvement after a few days. Please visit your doctor.

I can’t wait to be rid of the infection and have my piercings healed. I might still get more piercings later in the future (he he. Don’t judge me). Or maybe not? We’ll see…

I hope somebody learns a thing or two from this post.
